Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowship Program
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
The Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowship Program provides grants to colleges and universities to fund individual doctoral students in the fields of humanities and social sciences to conduct research in other countries in modern foreign languages and area studies for periods of 6 to 12 months.
**Proposals focusing on Western Europe are not eligible.
Students must apply through their institutions of higher education in the United States. A student is eligible to receive a fellowship if he or she:
* Is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
* Is admitted to candidacy in a doctoral program in modern foreign
languages and area studies at that institution
* Is planning a teaching career at the college level in the United States
* Possesses adequate skills in the language(s) necessary to carry out the
Support is provided for 6 to 12 months abroad with awards of up to $70,000 for travel, living and research expenses.
