CERS Dissertation Writing Fellowships

CERS awards dissertation fellowships of up to $5,000 to UCLA graduate students writing their dissertations on topics pertaining to European and/or Russian studies. Topics must cover modern or contemporary issues. Project descriptions must demonstrate how the dissertation will advance knowledge of European or Russian history, societies, or cultures. Applicants must be advanced to candidacy and must have completed their dissertation research. Priority is given to students who have exhausted the dissertation completion funding available through their academic department or the university. The fellowship may be used to supplement external grants.

Application materials:
• Summary of dissertation project (maximum 3 pages);
• Timeline for the remaining writing, revision, and filing of the dissertation;
• Complete list (with amounts) of other sources of financial support (including TA- and RA-ships) applied for, pending, and awarded for 2021-22;
• Current CV;
• Two letters of recommendation, one of which should be from the student’s principal advisor.

Application materials should be sent to CERS Executive Director Liana Grancea.
All materials except letters of recommendation should be combined into a single PDF file.

Deadline: December 10, 2021.
