Languages Across the Curriculum - Call for Proposals
GSR Funding for Spring Quarter 2009
Published: Friday, September 05, 2008
The "Languages Across the Curriculum" project involves collaboration between faculty in the social sciences and foreign language departments. Faculty are invited to develop new courses that allow undergraduate students to work on their language skills while taking a social science course. Graduate student researchers from participating language departments will receive support for one quarter to work closely with a participating faculty member from the social sciences to select primary materials for the proposed course in the target language. The respective language department will receive funding to employ the graduate student researcher, who will help students enrolled in the "language section" of the social science course with their assignments.
Conceivably, undergraduates can take such a course for honors credit. The students will conduct research for their papers using primary sources in the target language. Usually student papers will be written in English. Funding for graduate student researchers is available for the Spring 2007 quarter.
Interested UCLA faculty should contact Jim Robbins (CEES Administrative Director) as soon as possible, and no later than January 10, 2009.
