Pre-12F Requirements

Prior to 2012 Fall, the International Institute offered the following area studies majors:

East Asian Studies Major
European Studies Major
Latin American Studies Major
Middle Eastern & North African Studies (MENAS) Major
Southeast Asian Studies Major

If you declared one of these area studies majors prior to 12F, you will be able continue to pursue it by following the requirements as indicated on the Pre-12F Major Worksheets (please see below).

Note, however, that as of 12F, the International Institute will offer the following area studies majors under the new International & Area Studies IDP:

  • African and Middle Eastern Studies (AMES)
  • Asian Studies
  • European Studies
  • Latin American Studies

The requirements for these majors are quite different from the Pre-12F offerings, even for the majors with the same name, such as Latin American Studies and European Studies.  To view the new requirements, please review the updated Major Worksheets found here.

*** Students who have declared an area studies major prior to 12F have the option of switching to the corresponding new major (please see below), and may do so after by contacting the Academic Counselor for the International & Area Studies IDP. ***
