Romain Wacziarg is a Professor of Economics at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, where he holds the Hans Hufschmid Chair in Management. His research focuses on international economics, economic development, political economy, demographic economics and the long-run determinants of economic growth. His work has been published in leading journals including the American Economic Review, The Quarterly Journal of Economics, The Economic Journal and The Review of Economics and Statistics.
Wacziarg teaches an MBA-level course on the business environment of India at UCLA Anderson, integrating economic analysis with institutional and policy perspectives. The course, offered almost annually, culminates with an immersion trip to India. Born in Switzerland and raised in India and France, he spent the first seven years of his life in India, an experience that has shaped his long-standing interest in South Asian economies and comparative development. He is the Managing Editor of the Journal of the European Economic Association, a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, and Director of the Center for Global Management at UCLA Anderson.
