Brisa Smith Flores completed her undergraduate career at The Pennsylvania State University. There she worked to earn three degrees, Art History, History, And Global and International Studies, along with three minors in African American Studies, Latin American Studies, and Latino/a Studies. During her time as a Master’s student at the University of Pennsylvania, her research focused on cultural sovereignty, identity, art and art education. Now as a Ph.D. student at UCLA, her research evaluates methods of decolonization and practices of liberation inside art and cultural institutions that claim to serve their surrounding communities. She has worked with major art organizations such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Association of Public Art (formerly known as the Fairmount Park Art Association), and the Dallas Museum of Art, and co-curated shows at institutions like the Hammer Museum.
