His research has focused on musics and sounds from the African diaspora at large, and on the specific context of Los Angeles. Grounded in an interdisciplinary approach, his research on music borrows from various disciplines and fields such as anthropology, ethnic studies, history, cultural and critical studies. He is the current Co-Editor-in-Chief of Ethnomusicology Review Journal.
