Migration Matters: Connecting to a World in Movement

The UCLA Center for the Study of International Migration (CSIM) announces a new series of events, Migration Matters: Connecting to a World in Movement, designed to spotlight important migration matters that have not received the attention they deserve.

Our first such session, to be held on TODAY at 12PM will focus on the plight of asylum seekers from Cameroon, who, having fled ethnic violence in their home country undertake dangerous and circuitous journeys to the United States, then only to encounter severe difficulty in their search for safe haven.

We will from two experts, Dr Kevin Njabo, Cameroonian scientist, Adjunct Professor at the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, UCLA and Africa Director at the Center for Tropical Research/Congo Basin Institute; and Sasha Novis, a Staff Attorney with Al Otro Lado, a binational non-profit organization that offers free legal services to asylum seekers and deportees and who has represented multiple clients from Cameroon in their asylum cases before the immigration court in the Adelanto ICE Detention Center.

Roger Waldinger, CSIM Director, will moderate the session.
