ABSTRACT

While plenty of “crises” confront us (health care, the Middle East, education, climate change, Iraq), none seem more important than the current Economic Crisis. In the state and national elections of 2010, much of the conversation has related to which candidate better understands how to improve economic conditions. The Economic Crisis affects everyone, individuals and organizations, corporations and universities. By the time students reach the university, they know all about the dangers of smoking, illegal drugs, and unprotected sex. But they often have no understanding whatsoever of the economy; and, even if they are interested, are confronted with seemingly complex jargon that obscures important details. The purpose of this lecture is to de-mystify the Economic Crisis and provide listeners, particularly students, with a framework to help them think more clearly about the economy at large and the financial decisions they will make over time.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Skip Victor is a senior managing director and co-founder of Chanin Capital Partners, a Duff and Phelps company.  Victor has more than 20 years of experience in all phases of corporate restructurings, recapitalizations and other distressed transactions. Over his career he has developed deep expertise in advising companies, creditors and other interested parties in corporate restructurings as well as mergers and acquisitions, corporate financings and court testimony.  He has also been a guest lecturer on several reorganization panels and for the UCLA Graduate School of Management. Victor holds an M.B.A. from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and a B.A. from Cornell University.
