The Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research, Incorporated, is a private operating foundation that supports basic research in all branches of anthropology. Funding is not administered by the African Studies Center.
Created and endowed in 1941 as The Viking Fund, Inc. by Axel Wenner-Gren, the foundation's mission is to advance significant and innovative research about humanity's cultural and biological origins, development, and variation, and to foster the creation of an international community of research scholars in anthropology.
