Special Workshop for Teachers is Collaboration with Center X and History-Geography Project
In 2001-2002, the Center for European and Russian Studies launched a new K-12 teacher workshop series in collaboration with the UCLA History-Geography Project and the California Geographic Alliance. Entitled Europe Through the Ages, this special workshop series and summer institute is designed for seventh grade history teachers, and combines the academic strengths of the Center for European and Russian Studies with the well-established curriculum development programs of UCLA’s Center X and the History-Geography Project.
Europe has played an integral role in the development of world history, and it is a significant focus of the California State curriculum for seventh graders. This workshop series traces European history through such pivotal time periods as the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Enlightenment and the Age of Reason. Designed as an integrated program, the series features stimulating lectures by UCLA scholars, presentations by seventh grade classroom teachers and workshop time for discussion, collaboration and hands-on applications. A series of 4 evening workshops during the academic year will culminate in an intensive one week summer institute in which participants have the opportunity to research and develop their own lesson plans during the summer of 2002.
