About LAI Outreach

Outreach

Since 1959, The UCLA Latin American Institute (LAI) has been recognized as a major regional, national, and international resource for the support and development of innovative research on Latin America and the Caribbean region. The LAI brings scholars, artists and experts from around the nation and the globe and hosts public academic and cultural programs of interest to our surrounding community.

In addition to the cultural programming, the LAI is committed to partner with community school educators to foster greater understanding of Latin America through a variety of professional training opportunities.

Outreach at the LAI has offered academic enrichment and professional development opportunities to hundreds of local K-12 educators. Funded through a Title VI Federal Area Studies grant sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, the Summer Workshops offer analyses of major themes related to the Latin American Region. The workshops include comparative and cross-regional presentations and lectures, as well as curriculum innovation sessions facilitated by certified curriculum experts.
