China’s Legal Reform at Crossroads
中国法律改革的十字路

University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois

May 28-30, 2010

China’s legal reform is at a crossroads. After thirty years of state-led construction, the legal system in China has evolved into a complex system full of challenges and contradictions. The 12th annual OYCF conference, co-sponsored by the Center for East Asian Studies and the International House at the University of Chicago, brings together scholars, students and practitioners from China and the United States to discuss the past, present, and future of China’s legal reform. The topics of the panels include citizen rights, judicial reform, legal profession, corporate law, civil society, and property rights. We intend to address these issues by critically examining the empirical reality, as well as the historical and theoretical significance, of the ongoing legal reform in China.
