"The program really helped our child to improve their Russian skills. We're very pleased with this program and we would recommend it to our friends!"

"The day I heard them say 'The class goes by so fast that we cut from lunch to have more time' I knew this was a once in a lifetime experience that these kids were lucky to have. It is an undiscovered treasure, and I hope more Armenian parents will take advantage of it."

"Since the class ended, I've noticed that my daughters are more interested in their culture and heritage than they were before. They eagerly read Korean whenever they encounter it and readily speak Korean with their grandparents."

"Teaching Farsi to high school graduates is an excellent idea. At a time that many of our youth are still deciding what to do with their future, your program gives them a chance to contemplate and think about their heritage and encourages them to learn more about it."

We will not offer the Summer Language Program this summer 2018. UCLA will undergo extensive renovations during this time and, due to the shortage of classroom space, we will not be running the language courses. We plan on resuming our summer language courses in summer 2019.

We thank you for your understanding. If you would like to be added to our mailing list to receive updates on the 2019 program, please email us at hslanguages@ucla.edu.

ABSENCES AND TARDIES: When taking a language class, attendance is crucial in order to practice and improve. Students are required to make up the work they miss if absent. If you expect to miss a significant portion of class time because of sickness or vacation, please speak to your teacher about how to make up work.

ACADEMIC CREDIT: Please note that although these courses are sponsored by and take place at UCLA, they are not college classes and do not have any college credit possibilities. Upon completion of the course, teachers will mail home a letter explaining the course with the student’s grade in a sealed envelope along with a certificate of completion. Students may choose to  bring the sealed envelope containing their grade to their high school.

Granting the student a year of high school language credit is up to the student’s high school. If receiving credit is important to the student, we advise students to confirm with their guidance counselors that they are eligible for this credit before the beginning of summer.

ENROLLMENT: Enrollment for all heritage classes is open to high school students who have had some exposure to the target language via their family background or community. Students do not need to be able to read and write in the heritage language before enrolling. Please check the FAQs for more information about who is a heritage student. If you are still unsure whether these classes are right for you, please contact us at hslanguages@international.ucla.edu. Enrollment is first come, first serve. If a class fills, we will keep a waiting list.

FEES: $200

FILMING RELEASE FORMS: Enrolled students will receive a welcome packet in the mail, including among other things a filming release form to complete. Please mail back this form or bring it on the first day of class. Students will not be allowed to participate in the class film if this form is not on file.

PAYMENTS: After you register online, a program representative will contact you via the email you provided on your registration form within two weeks to give you more course information. You will also be provided with a link to pay for the course online.

REFUNDS: We will refund 100% of your payment if you choose to withdraw on or before the first day of class.
