Chair of the Dance Dept. of the Institute for the Arts, Denpasar Campus (ISI) 2008-2015, Dr. Cerita is one of the most influential and prolific choreographers in Indonesia who often composes his own music. Serving as an adviser to major festivals across Bali he is consulted in setting policy for the arts. He is also a mentor to arts leaders and new creative artists. He teaches some of Bali's most established and respected artists for highly prestigious events. Many of his students have gone on to become some of Bali's greatest performers, teachers, choreographers and leaders. Dr. Cerita will discuss the current challenges in dance creation, presentation and study in Bali. How does dance serve the community, religious, artistic and social needs of the Balinese people? Hear from this preeminent authority about the foundational philosophies and values of Balinese dance including aesthetics, creativity, community and spirituality.
