In April 2020, UCLA Department of Asian American Studies announced a new, interdisciplinary Pilipino Studies minor (https: //international.ucla.edu/cseas/article/221314) to launch in Fall 2020.

To celebrate the new minor, Professor Lucy Burns and Professor Christine Balance (Cornell University) co-organized a screening on June 4, 2020 of the play adaptation of Carlos Bulosan's short story "The Romance of Magno Rubio (https: //international.ucla.edu/cseas/event/14441)," produced by New York's Theater Ma-Yi. The screening was followed with Q&A and discussion with Dr. Joi Barrios (UC Berkeley) and actors Jojo Gonzalez, Ron Doming, and Ramon de Ocampo.

This speaker series titled "the Philippines and its Elsewhere" was presented by the UCLA Department of Asian American Studies, UCLA Asian American Studies Center, and UCLA Center for Southeast Asian Studies from 2017-2018. Sponsors include the UCLA International Institute, Institute for American Cultures with support from the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, UCLA Office of Instructional Development, UCLA Library, and the Department of Comparative Literature.
