Oded Gur Arie was 12 when his father, an Israeli Mossad agent, left on assignment to Egypt to pose as German millionaire and ex-Nazi Wolfgang Lotz. When the elder Gur Arie’s subterfuge was eventually exposed, Oded and his mother realized he had become a stranger even to them. Nadav Schirman’s riveting documentary about a fractured family teases out all the secrets, tension, anguish and tentative hope entwined in the Mideast struggle. Employing a jazzy score and evocative home movies, this remarkable film digs into the tragedy of a narcissistic daredevil and the boy — now a man — who suffered the consequences of his dangerous life.
