Hsiao-Mei Ho 何曉玫 is the artistic director of MeimageDance, She was formerly the Director of Taipei Crossover Dance Company, Rehearsal Director for Cloud Gate 2, and has guest choreographed
Mirage and
Paper Sky for the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre. This year, she presented
Camouflage, a repeat invitation from the National Theater and Concert Hall (NTCH), and toured this work to the Beijing Dance Festival. In 2013, she was invited by NTCH to present her work,
My Dear, which was one of five works nominated for the 12th Annual Taishin Arts Award.
Woo! Barbie (2010) and
Beyond the Pale (2011), were nominated for the 9th and 10th Annual Taishin Arts Award, respectively. She was invited by OISTAT to present her work
Middle in Seoul, Korea in 2009 and to host a workshop in Prague, Czech Republic in 2011. In 2006, her choreography
My Freud was presented at the Hong Kong Dance Festival, and in 2001,
The Covered Picture was showcased at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Hsiao-Mei was invited to be a guest choreographer by the American Dance Festival in 1995. She is an Associate Professor at the Taipei National University of the Arts.
Cheng-Chieh Yu 余承媫 is the founder/director of Yu Dance Theater. She began her performance career touring with Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, then danced and choreographed professionally in NYC from 1989 to 2001. She took on teaching position at UCLA and has since been based out of Los Angeles as a transnational dance artist since 2001. Her choreography has been produced in NYC and LA as well as internationally in China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Israel, Germany, and Taiwan. Commissions include those from the Beijing Modern Dance Co., the Guangdong Modern Dance Co., Taipei Dance Circle, Sun-Shier Dance Theatre, Creative Society of Tai-wan, and the Jumping Frames Dance Video Festival in Hong Kong. Yu has received grants from City of LA/Cultural Affairs, the James Irvine Foundation, the Jerome Foundation, Asian Cultural Council, and the Arts and Culture Foundation of Taiwan. Recently, her dance-for-camera commission, “Martiality Not Fighting” received the Best Short in Dance Camera West/LA, 2015, as well as the Best Performance from the InShadow Video Festival in Portugal, 2014. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance, UCLA.
