Survival in the Diaspora

2nd annual Judeo-Spanish Conference

Judeo-Spanish has evolved for more than five centuries since the expulsion of the Jews of the Iberian Peninsula. This symposium looks to engage in dialogue to explore the multifaceted aspects of Diaspora through variable changes from the time of the Sephardic expulsion through the 21st century.  This year's theme "Survival in the Diaspora" will bring in world  
scholars and activists in Judeo-Spanish studies including Marcelo Benveniste (Argentina), Liliana Benveniste (Argentina) and Solly Levy (Canada residence/ Moroccan origin). We will also be offering a series of workshops by Invited Speakers Benni Aguado of New York and Brian Berman of Los Angeles on learning the Rashi and Solitreo handwriting, alphabets used for centuries by the Sephardim in the Diaspora.  Graduate student presentations will be held throughout the two day conference as well in order to promote and encourage new scholarship within Judeo-Spanish studies.
