Screening of a Brazilian film inspired by the 1976 song "Eye to Eye" by Chico Buarque, November 8 & 10 at the AFI Film Festival presented by Audi
The Silver Cliff
Directed by Karim Aïnouz
Synopsis: Violeta has it all: a loving husband, a beautiful child, a fulfilling career and a new apartment near the beach. Like any normal day, she dives into her routine, gets ready for work, kisses her husband goodbye, and heads off on her bike commute through the hectic city of Rio de Janeiro. The tides violently change when she receives a cruel voicemail from her husband. He has abandoned her and will never return. Stunned, Violeta leaves work and floats heartbroken through the streets. Much like the ocean, the Copacabana night is turbulent and restless, but also calming and soothing. Violeta’s wanderings bring new encounters, new experiences, and ultimately, a measure of healing. Director Karim Aïnouz captures the vivid natural beauty of Rio as he portrays the brave 24-hour odyssey of a wounded woman mourning her lost love.
