A review of the medical, research and economic impact of multiple research studies in HIV and tropical diseases conducted in Brazil under UCLA sponsorship, spanning 6 cities (Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Ribeirao Preto e Manaus) and 10 institutions.

 

The HIV/AIDS epidemic in Brazil: Epidemiology and Characteristics of the Response

Presented by Maria Amelia de S. M. Veras, MD, MPH, PhD, Adjunct Professor, Social Medicine Department of the School of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo, Brazil.

This presentation will describe the epidemiology of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Brazil, outlining the governmental response, its major achievements, and challenges.
