
The Center for India and South Asia welcomes Professor Dipesh Chakrabarty as the 2011 annual guest lecturer.
The Center for India and South Asia's 2011 Annual Lecture will discuss how Imperial ideals played a role in shaping debates to do with the meaning of "research" among Indian historians in the early part of the twentieth century.
Biography
Dipesh Chakrabarty is the Lawrence A. Kimpton Distinguished Service Professor of History and South Asian Studies at the University of Chicago. He is the author of Provincializing Europe: Postcolonial Thought and Historical Difference (2000; 2007).Currently a co-editor of Critical Inquiry, he was a founding member of the editorial collective of Subaltern Studies and a founding editor of Postcolonial Studies. His books and articles have been translated into many languages.
