Book presentation by Professor David Delgado Shorter. Hosted by the UCLA Library Writer Series.
David Delgado Shorter, an associate professor in the UCLA Department ofWorld Arts and Cultures, will talk about his book We Will Dance our Truth: Yaqui History in Yoeme Performances. After extensive field study among these inhabitants of the Sonora and Arizona borderlands, he interprets the community’s ceremonies and oral traditions as forms of “historical inscription” that reveal new meanings of their legends.
Shorter’s work explores other-than-human relationships, myths, and rituals of native people around the world. A native of New Mexico, he attended Arizona State University and the University of California, Santa Cruz and has taught at Wesleyan University and Indiana University.
