Susana Baca has been a  key figure in the revival of Afro-Peruvian music within Peru, helping to reclaim African roots as a vital part of Peruvian culture. Baca has won international acclaim beginning in 1995 with the release of the compilation CD "The Soul of Black Peru". In 2002 Susana Baca won the Grammy Award for Best Folk Album for her "Lamento Negro" CD. Naming cultural tensions that have haunted the Americas for centuries, her gifts of song and dance light a way into healing.
