The purpose of this paper is to inquire into views on Buddhism of eminent Silla monks, including Wonhyo (617-86),who were active from the sixth to the seventh centuries, when saw the golden era in the doctrinal studies in Korean history.

Professor Jongmyung Kim is an associate professor at the Academy of Korean Studies in Korea and currently a visiting professor at UCLA. He received his Ph.D in Korean Buddhism at UCLA
