Professor Ratton coordinates the Center for the Study and Research of Crime, Violence, and Politics at UFPE. He is currently a Special Advisor to the Governor of Pernambuco. He is the author of Violence and Crime in Modern Brazil (1996), Police, Democracy, and Society (2007), and a number of essays and papers on sociology and violence in Brazil.
