The Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra (Orquesta filarmonica de la Ciudad de Mexico) performed for the first time on September 15, 1978 and is now one of the most prominent in all of Latin America. The concert will comprise an exquisite repertoire of classic compositions by Mexican composers of the twentieth century including Carlos Chávez, Silvestre Revueltas, José Pablo Moncayo, and Arturo Márquez. Led by Maestro Enrique Diemecke, Mexico’s Philharmonic will premiere UCLA Professor Steven Loza’s América Topical – a piece to be interpreted by Los Angeles Opera mezzo-soprano Suzanna Guzmán and accompanied by a narrative and multimedia imagery created by UCLA Professors Jose Luis Valenzuela and Judy Baca. The presentation will feature a Mariachi concerto by Los Camperos de Nati Cano and a narration for América Tropical by actor Edward James Olmos.
