Wildflowers on the Battlefield
(1974) Directed by Lee Man-hee
Director Lee Man-hee frequently clashed with Korean censors over his humanist portrayals of men at war. Wildflowers on the Battlefield fascinates, however, more for the ways it reflects the party line of the era. An epic paean to Korean nationalism, the film palys like a Korean Pearl Harbor as it tracks half a dozen characters through the chaotic opening days of the Korean War.
