A faculty lecture by DEBORA SILVERMAN, UCLA, History
King Leopold II galvanized his new nation of Belgium to show imperial prowess and bring liberation and civilization to a "Congo Free State." This lecture, part of a book-in-progress, explores how the Congo was represented in the King's Museum at the turn of the century and how it is now being reconsidered.
