The presentation will focus on the lack of political knowledge and civic participation exhibited by the Brazilian citizenry, in particular high school students. The panel will share results from a recent student survey conducted in the city of São Paulo administered by the Instituto Brasileiro de Desenvolvimento da Cidadania. The panelists will talk about the urgency to address these trends in order to strengthen Brazilian democracy and institutionalize a just and equitable society. They will also present a brief overview of the Brazilian educational system, and the educational programs implemented by the Instituto Brasileiro de Desenvolvimento da Cidadania (http://www.institutocidadania.org.br).

Cost: Free and open to the public. Parking on the UCLA Campus (Lot 3) is $8.
