
A lecture by Liu Yong (Chinese Conservatory of Music)
The suona (oboe) is one of the most widespread instruments used in folk music throughout China today. Southern and southwestern Shandong province is renowned for its virtuosic and unique suona style. Dr. Liu Yong carried out his Ph.D. research on the suona bands of this region. In this lecture, he explains the unusual history and performance characteristics of this mesmerizing music.
