PERONISMO - The Aesthetics of Power in Modern Argentina, Day Two

Organized by the Program on Argentina

Friday, April 20, 2007
10:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Doheny Library
USC
Los Angeles, CA United States

Peronismo arguably defines the last sixty years of Argentina’s history. From Juan Domingo Peron’s first presidency to Nestor Kirchner’s current administration, peronismo informs the story of modern Argentine politics --democracy, dictatorships, neo-liberalism and globalization—and, as such, has been the subject of numerous studies by historians and political scientists. But peronismo exceeds the strictly political sphere and embraces all aspects of culture and society.  This conference intends to explore the imprints of peronismo in less obvious yet highly significant cultural sites, including architecture and the urban landscape, cinema and literature, education and philosophy, opera and popular culture, iconography and propaganda.
