
Peter Kovach, Diplomat in Residence
Peter Kovach, Visiting Professor and Diplomat in Residence at UCLA’s Department of Public Policy, will speak on his experiences as a diplomat, scholar, and journalist living and traveling from Yemen to the Pacific Islands. His talk will examine the fusion of cultures in the context of geography and geopolitics in history, focusing on India, China and Vietnam. In a coda, he will reflect on genetic truths and Japanese self-image.
Peter Kovach is a member of the Senior Foreign Service and holds the rank of Minister-Counselor. He is currently Diplomat in Residence at UCLA serving all of Southern California. He served recently as Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan; Director of the Office of Public Diplomacy for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs; and Director of the State Department's three Foreign Press Centers. He has served overseas in Tokyo, Japan; Amman, Jordan; Rabat, Morocco; Manama, Bahrain; and Sanaa, Yemen.
