Award-winning Peruvian weaver, Nilda Callañaupa, will demonstrate traditional Incan textiles and techniques, including a finely crafted reproduction of a 500-year-old textile worn by the Inca mummy Ice Maiden of Arequipa.
The event will include short lectures by Cotsen archaeologists Charles Stanish and Christopher B. Donnan, whose Peruvian excavations have attracted considerable attention over the years. A Peruvian dance troupe will perform live, and a short documentary video, highlighting recent efforts to revive the millennial Peruvian textile tradition, will also be shown. Traditional appetizers and Peruvian drinks will be served to the sounds of live Peruvian music.
