K-12 Teachers' One-Day Seminar

The histories of Europe and the Middle East have been intertwined since ancient times—each has influenced the culture of other through relationships ranging from trade to battles, from collaboration to conquest.  The Center for European and Eurasian Studies, the Center for Near Eastern Studies, and UCLA History-Geography Project are sponsoring a summer institute and two preliminary sessions for teachers of Grades 6-11 focused on the synergies resulting from this intersection of cultures.  Attendance at the preliminary sessions is independent of attendance at the summer institute. 

Preliminary Sessions

• March 17, 2007-10:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M.-Dr. Patrick Geary speaking on “Looking at the East from the West”
• June 2, 2007-10:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M.-Dr. James Gelvin speaking on “Looking at the West from the East”

There is a $30 charge to hold your reservation; if you attend both sessions, your check will be returned to you at the end of the June 2 event.

Schedule-9:30-Welcome/food available

               10:00-11:30-Presentation by professor

               11:30-1:00-Lesson applications

Credit Information-These sessions qualify for .5 UCLA Extension credits each.  Information about cost and the enrollment procedure will be distributed at each session.
