Visiones: Art and Activism in Latin America

An interdisciplinary working group focused on the intersection of artistic practice and political intervention in Latin America from the 1960s to the present

'Visiones: Art & Activism' will hold its next meeting on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 17th at 6:30 PM at the UnderSpring Studios of FARMLAB + NOT A CORNFIELD.

Members of the FarmLab team will discuss their current projects in a conversation moderated by Los Angeles-based curator and writer Bill Kelley Jr.

Not A Cornfield was an art project that transformed a 32-acre industrial brownfield site in the historic center of Los Angeles  into a cornfield for one agricultural cycle and served as a catalyst for the development of the land into a community greenspace. After the corn was harvested in 2006 the Not a Cornfield team formed the research initiative FarmLab. Artist Lauren Bon, who leads the initiative, describes it as follows: "by farm, we mean living things and by lab we mean in an urban environment."

The event  is free and all are welcome to attend. Those interested in socially engaged art practice, environmental art, issues of public space, or urban planning in Los Angeles are especially encouraged to attend.

 

Visiones is an interdisciplinary working group on the intersection of activism and art practice, focusing on Latin America and the Los Angeles area. It will be hosting other events throughout the winter and spring quarters.
