Art + Activism: Gideon Mendel, "Photography in the Age of AIDS"

A discussion with Gideon Mendel, a photographer of enormous emotional depth and political sophistication, best known for chronicling AIDS in South Africa.

Mendel is the author of A Broken Landscape: HIV & AIDS in Africa (2001), which depicts the devastation of AIDS but also the activist impulse that seeks to stop it. The talk will include some of his most prominent images, including a photograph of Nelson Mandela donning Treatment Action Campaign’s “HIV Positive” t-shirt.

Cost: Free and open to the public; parking is available for $8.
