ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

From his tenure as Congressional Chairman and President Clinton’s Chief of Staff to serving as President Obama’s Secretary of Defense and Director of the CIA, Leon Panetta has had an exemplary career as a public servant dedicated to the power of political participation to bring about positive change.

On the occasion of the 2015 Daniel Pearl Memorial Lecture at UCLA, Panetta will speak to the principles and philosophy that guided Pearl’s life as a journalist and will discuss his recent book Worthy Fights: A Memoir of Leadership in War and Peace. He will discuss his experience in government and how it aligns with Pearl’s conviction that journalism can play a critical role in increasing understanding across cultural barriers. Journalist Jim Newton will moderate the discussion.
