Adrian Grenier and Peter Glatzer, Co-founders of SHFT, and Barry Cik, Co-founder of Naturpedic, will discuss whether sustainable products can and will drive the economy, focusing on how far the "green" market has come and what needs to be done to spur further innovation and growth.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Adrian Grenier is an actor, filmmaker, and musician well known for his role on HBO's Entourage. His film credits include: The Adventures of Sebastian Cole, Drive Me Crazy, Cecil B. DeMented, Adventures of Power, and the Woody Allen films Celebrity and Anything Else. He has directed numerous short films and documentaries including Shot in the Dark, which chronicles his years-long search for his father and Teenage Paparazzo, which explores the relationship between celebrity and society. As a musician, he plays percussion in the "Appalachian glamrock" outfit the Honey Brothers. He co-founded SHFT in 2009 with film producer Peter Glatzer after the two collaborated on Alter Eco, a TV series for Discovery.
Peter Glatzer is an independent film producer with six films to his credit, including the Sundance hit The Grave and the Tim Roth/Renee Zellweger thriller Deceiver. He has made films and created television shows for HBO, Miramax, Fox, MGM and Discovery. Prior to producing, he was the Executive Director of the Hamptons Film Festival and the creator of the IFP Gotham Awards. In 2006 he started to look for sustainable options for himself and found a dearth of scattered information, which led to his partnership with Adrian Grenier and the creation of their TV show Alter Eco for Discovery’s Planet Green. The two launched SHFT with a mission to curate and position sustainably designed products and ideas and nudge them into mainstream culture.
Barry Cik is a quarter century veteran in the field of environmental engineering. In anticipation of his first grandchild, Barry went searching for a suitable baby crib mattress. Sadly, he found all of the crib mattress offerings completely unacceptable and was in shock at the state of the industry. Together with his two sons, Barry set out to found Naturepedic, an organic and non-toxic baby crib mattress company dedicated to providing parents with a better alternative - the first and only waterproof organic baby crib mattress designed with a safe food grade polyethylene cover, and which eliminates the potentially harmful chemicals with which Barry was so familiar.
