Renewed Agreement with Korean University

Officials from Seoul-based Dongguk University and UCLA sign a new memorandum of understanding that is expected to result in collaboration and exchange in fields beyond Buddhist studies.

Feb. 1, 2010, marked the expansion of a partnership between UCLA and Dongguk University in Seoul, Korea. Vice Provost for International Studies J. Nicholas Entrikin and DU’s Dean of International Programs and Education, Kim Il Chung, signed a new memorandum of understanding on Monday in a Bunche Hall conference room with DU President Oh Young Kyo as observer.

UCLA and Dongguk have had agreements going back more than 20 years, but this MOU brings with it hopes for stronger ties between the universities in disciplines beyond Buddhist studies. Scholarly exchanges at the faculty and student levels are anticipated. Also attending the signing ceremony were several UCLA faculty members including Center for Buddhist Studies Director Robert Buswell, who is serving concurrently as director of the Buddhist Research Institute at DU.
