Asian Studies at UCLA
UCLA offers opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to pursue the study of Asia in many majors and departments across campus. For campus-wide course listings in specific Asian world regions, please visit the Asia center websites listed at the right.
Asian Languages and Cultures
The Asian Languages and Cultures department offers undergraduate majors in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Asian Religions, and Asian Humanities. Graduate programs are offered in Buddhist Studies, Chinese, Japanese and Korean language and literature, East Asian Linguistics, and Cultural and Comparative Studies. Southeast Asian and South Asian languages and area studies courses are also offered.
International and Area Studies Interdepartmental Degree Programs
The International Institute offers a variety of area studies majors and minors through the International & Area Studies Interdepartmental Program (IDP). The overarching goal of all of these programs is to address the need for students to have a broad understanding of the international nature of the modern world, and then apply that knowledge to a particular geographical region.

East Asian Studies MA
The M.A. degree in East Asian Studies is an interdisciplinary program intended to enable students to develop a broad understanding of an individual East Asian culture or to engage in comparative study of two or more East Asian cultures.
