Performing Politics in Japan and Modern East Asia
An interdisciplinary conference, organized by UCLA History professor William Marotti
Friday, December 03, 2010
Time to be announced.
The conference theme explores “the political” as an integral part of people’s experience and practice, enacted and negotiated through forms of performance, training, inculcation, and activism. By addressing the practical and performative dimensions of politics—understood in its widest sense—we hope to elicit discussions beyond the limitations imposed by administrative and disciplinary barriers, to consider innovative methodological approaches adequate to these understandings. Presentations will variously address the politics of cultural practice, ritual, discipline, media, and visuality, and of the cultural, experiential, and epistemological aspects of political events.
