Alexander Woodside is Emeritus Professor of History at the University of British Columbia. He is a specialist in both Vietnam and China. His publications include Vietnam and the Chinese Model: A Comparison of Vietnamese and Chinese Government in the First Half of the Nineteenth Century (1988), and Community and Revolution in Modern Vietnam (1971). He is author most recently of Lost Modernities: China, Vietnam, Korea, and the Hazards of World History (2006).
