'Crossings in a Beautiful Time' is a experimental documentary evoking Aparna Sharma's encounter with an Indian community in Wales, UK. The film is a mapping of this community's formations, voices, aspirations, memories and imaginations. Sharma is deeply interested in the conversation between modern art and anthropology. In 'Crossings...' she has attempted to use ethnogrpahic field research to develop montage scenograhies and sequences for depicting the subject community's encounters and experiences. The film experiments with the varied possibilities for constructing image and sound that are neither coincidental nor random or impulsive constructions. At the level of content, the film seeks to suggest how diasporic experiences are not homogenous and involve a more complicated register of socio-historical factors further than the pure dynamics of economically motivated migration. The film is bracketted with two reflexive sequences that attempt to suggest the particular subjectivity of the filmmaker that informs the film's construction. 'Crossings in a Beautiful Time' was Aparna Sharma's doctoral thesis submission at the Film Academy, University of Glamorgan, Wales. For more information please contact
