UCLA Korean Culture Night 2015
Thursday, April 9, 2015
7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Royce Hall Auditorium
UCLA
CA
Hosted by Hanoolim Korean Cultural Awareness Group, Korean Culture Night (KCN) is the largest showcase run by Korean American students in the United States. It provides an opportunity for students of various backgrounds and affiliations to come together with one purpose: to spread awareness of both Korean traditional culture and contemporary Korean American culture.
KCN gives students an opportunity to express themselves creatively and presents many chances for our KCN participants to create lasting friendships. One of KCN’s main goals is to promote diversity and create a welcoming multicultural environment to our 1800+ show attendees.
The three-hour production features a live play integrated with traditional drumming, fan dance, modern dance and original music tied together by a theme specially chosen for that year. The theme ranges from past and present social and political issues to aspects of traditional and modern culture. Ultimately, it is designed to reflect not only upon students’ perspectives but those of American society as well.
On April 9th 2015, KCN will host its 23rd production. KCN has been held at Royce Hall annually and is becoming larger in scale and garnering more success each year. More and more students gain interest in watching the show and participating in the production. Through theatrical arts, Korean drumming, both traditional and modern dancing and the creative fusions of music and acting, KCN 2015 will display themes of bridging generational gaps and understanding humanity’s choice of love and hope in major crossroads of life as well as in the mundane day-to-day activities. We hope to provide an entertaining and educational evening that creates a medium for which a diverse group of audience can understand and appreciate the Korean-American experience. The production’s presence in the community stabilizes with its success receives increasing recognition through such growth.
