UC Faculty Fellowships
The University of California Humanities Research Institute
Published: Wednesday, December 01, 2004
The University of California Humanities Research Institute (HRI) invites applications from UC faculty, postdoctoral scholars, and advanced graduate students for residential fellowships to participate in one of four research groups that will reside at HRI during the 2002-03 academic year. HRI's residential research groups bring together UC scholars and non-UC faculty to work in collaboration on interdisciplinary topics of special significance. HRI seeks to promote new and exciting scholarships in the humanities by fostering the kinds of activities that cannot occur within the framework of existing disciplines and institutional structures. Fellows will be in residence at HRI, located on the Irvine campus, participating in regular group seminar meetings and colloquia. An expected long-term outcome of the group is the publication of an edited volume. Fellowships are awarded competitively.
UC faculty receiving HRI fellowships continue to obtain full salary from their home campuses. Fellowships combine HRI support with sabbatical grants, or other paid leave. In addition, HRI provides modest on-campus housing for the period of residence, as well as a private office with a computer having e-mail and Internet access. Fellows are required to relocate temporarily to Irvine while in residence at HRI for the period of the research group's activities.
HRI limits a faculty member's ability to hold an HRI fellowship to once in five or twice in seven. Faculty from outside the University of California are regularly invited to participate in residential research group projects, although fellowships for non-UC faculty are available only as resources allow.
December 14, 2001
Faculty Fellows will be selected by the Fellowship Committee and notified by March 1, 2002.
