UCLA researchers have been awarded a total of $74,170 from the University of California Pacific Rim Research Program for the 2013-2014 academic year. The UC-wide multicampus research program funds new research that is focused on the Pacific Rim as a unique geographic area and crosses national and disciplinary boundaries.
Geoffrey Robinson, Professor of History, has been awarded $40,000 for a three-year faculty initiative project on “Human Rights Archives in the Pacific Rim: Politial, Legal, and Ethical Challenges.” Michelle Caswell, Assistant Professor of Archival Studies, is a collaborator on the project. Jennifer Goldstein, a graduate student in Geography, has been awarded $19,000 for her field research in Indonesia on “Boondogle, or Benefit: The Commodification of Degraded Landscapes in Indonesia in an Age of Climate Change.” (See UCLA graduate student receives multiple awards for research project in Indonesia for more on Goldstein’s research.)
Luis-Felipe Murillo, an Anthropology graduate student, has been awarded $15,170 for his research on Transnationality and Politics of Computer Expertise.
