Info for graduate students interested in being involved with Ufahamu, an internationally respected refereed journal of African Studies under the management of graduate students.  There are opportunities to edit, publish, and contribute to one of the longest continuously published graduate journals in the country (over 30 years). 

If you are interested in Africa and are a graduate student at UCLA, please attend this meeting or email the editors at ufahamu@ucla.edu.

Ufahamu editorial board members do not have to be African Studies students; all graduate students interested in Africa are invited to contribute by writing, editing, reviewing submissions, working on graphics/design, etc.

We would like to invite all those interested in issues affecting Africa to the Fall Editorial Board Meeting of UFAHAMU, A Journal of African Studies.  Please mark your calendars for TUESDAY, October 10 FROM 4:30 TO 6:00PM . We will meet on the 10th Floor of BUNCHE in 10367. Snacks will be provided.
 
Ufahamu, UCLA's multidisciplinary Africanist Graduate journal, has maintained its original vision of creating a forum for protest within the academic sphere.  Since 1970, the journal has continuously published the work of a wide variety of scholars-- with a particular emphasis on voices from Africa --  and others marginalized by the mainstream academic presses.  In our 30 plus years we have featured original works by a wide variety of authors including Walter Rodney, Sondra Hale, Mahmood Mamdani, Robin Kelley, Boniface Obichere, and many, many others. Our most recent issue featured an original work by Ali Mazrui alongside contributions from several UCLA graduate students.
 
This year Ufahamu faces particular challenges that threaten the continued existence of the journal at UCLA. Please join us in our efforts to keep this space open through creating linkages with progressive Africanist minds and featuring current critical views within our pages. Be a part of the transition as we take on the challenges that threaten to close this important space.
