African Language Projects
Two current research and language projects by Thomas Hinnebusch, Professor Emeritus of Linguistics and African Languages
The Swahili Poetry Archive and Lexicon
This project and web site in general is intended to provide a resource for the study of Swahili Poetry. In particular it provides a digital anthology and archive of Swahili poetry and a citation glossary of vocabulary used in poetry.

The UCLA Language Materials Project (LMP)
The UCLA LMP is basically an online fully searchable bibliography of teaching materials for approximately 150 less commonly taught languages, including 30 African languages. It also offers access to numerous authentic materials that can be used by teachers in their curricula. Two other important components are:
(1) a set of Language Profiles, encyclopedic-style articles on many of the languages catalogued by the project. These include information about the historical, and social roots of the language, a map showing where the language is spoken, basic facts about the grammar, writing systems, the history of the language, and a wealth of other sociolinguistic information.
(2) The K-12 Gateway. This part of the project provides information on available published K-12 language teaching materials, links to online resources for language teachers, and a complete set of lesson plans that can be adapted to a variety of languages and grade level.
